I dont get to do them as often as I used to, but the only places I ever worked them regularly were Games Magaine (I always liked the World's Most Ornery Crossword Puzzle), and the Dell Magazine Family (I never succeeded in completing one of the Challenging ones, even with a lot of resource material). So you can tell I am not an expert by any means, especially not like those who can do them without resorting to reference material. I also like the New York Times, especially once Will Shorter from Games went there. Any of you out there recommend some great crossword material?
I'd especially be interested in any great 'How to' material.

I'm a total crossword junkie (and NYT crossword snob) and I highly recommend the New York Times' subscription service. For $35/yr, you have access to all the NYT puzzles (for download and printing) back through Oct 1996!
Keep in mind that Mondays are the easiest and Saturdays are the hardest.
If you do the puzzles using the free Across Lite software, you can have it help you fill in difficult parts, while you learn how to improve your skills.
That's how I learned to do 'em. And I've even managed to finish a Friday puzzle all on my own!
Good luck!
